city of birmingham

In July 2018, the City of Birmingham launched the Department of Innovation and Economic Opportunity (IEO), because it is committed to facilitating an inclusive economy in Birmingham. IEO understands that “putting people first” is much more than Mayor Woodfin’s campaign slogan; it’s a strategy to govern. IEO’s goal is to co-design an economy with Birmingham residents and leaders that enables residents to create their own economic future, grow their companies, and find their purpose. Opportunity Zones are a tool to facilitate that vision.
